Beach Kinder
Our Beach Kindergarten program offers children the opportunity to connect with nature and learn beyond the classroom through regular visits to our local beach. This unique experience supports children to explore the natural environment, develop confidence, and build a strong sense of responsibility for caring for our world.
Through hands-on, play-based learning, children engage in activities such as sand and water exploration, observing marine life, and discussing environmental sustainability. These experiences promote physical development, resilience, problem-solving, and collaboration, while encouraging curiosity and a sense of wonder.
Beach Kinder also supports children to develop risk awareness and independence in a safe and supported environment. By learning on Bunurong Country, children are guided to respect and appreciate the land, fostering a deeper connection to community and place.

“Nature pedagogy is an understanding of our sense of belonging to the land and our relationship with the natural world.” — Claire Warden
At Hunt Community Early Learning Centre, we believe children are naturally curious and deeply connected to the world around them. Our Beach Kinder program provides meaningful opportunities for children to explore, play, and learn in our local coastal environment, fostering a strong sense of identity, wellbeing, and respect for nature.
Through regular visits to the beach, children take the lead in their learning — engaging in open-ended exploration, sensory experiences, and inquiry-based play. Whether collecting shells, observing marine life, drawing in the sand, or simply moving their bodies freely in nature, children develop creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills in a rich and ever-changing environment.
Beach Kinder offers children space — not only physically, but emotionally. It allows them to be active, curious, and fully engaged in ways that may feel different from indoor environments. The natural setting supports unhurried learning, collaboration, and a sense of freedom, while also encouraging children to take safe risks and build resilience.
Spending time outdoors supports children’s overall health and wellbeing, promoting physical development, happiness, and a strong connection to the environment. Through these experiences, children develop a deep respect for nature and begin to understand their role in caring for the world around them.
Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, we view the outdoor environment as a place for open-ended exploration, discovery, and connection. Our Beach Kinder program embraces this approach, nurturing children’s natural sense of wonder and belonging to our local community and environment.
